The intersection between poverty, race, and where one lives leads to dramatically different options for jobs, healthcare, housing, food choices, recreation and exercise, and safety. This study, a partnership between The Kirwin Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity at The Ohio State University and the REACH Healthcare Foundation and its community partners in Kansas City, examined the evidence of unmet medical need and this intersection of poverty, race, and geography to create a portrait of how communities on both sides of the state line fare in terms or access to care, morbidity, and mortality. Invited by the Urban League of Greater Kansas City, the authors (Moore and Norris) published their report in the 2015 State of Black Kansas City.
